 Ugíjar
Today it is the central town to the area of the Alpujarra, Ugíjar is a town full of history, where Ulysses was supposed to have come. In the past the main industry was the confection of silk, now the agriculture of almonds, olives, vines, is a source of income… but the growing market for properties and cortijos is changing it into a more tourist oriented area.
Ugíjar is the center for the main administration and has most services.
The patron for Ugijar and the Alpujarra is the “Virgen del Martirio” celebrated in October.
