Ugíjar
One of the largest villages in the Alpujarra, Ugíjar is full of history where Ulysses was supposed to have come. In the past the main industry was the confection of silk, now the agriculture of almonds, olives, vines, is a source of income… but the growing demand for real estate is changing Ugíjar into a more tourist-oriented area. Ugíjar is the center for the main administration and offers most services. The patron for Ugíjar and the Alpujarra is the “Virgen del Martirio” celebrated in October.
